In 1986, she moved to the Alternative Center and taught there for two years. In 1988, she was offered the Principal position at Washington Elementary where she remained until her untimely death. During our last conversation, she asked me where I lived and we chuckled as I shared with her. I did not have an opportunity to spend more time with her because I had to tend to my mother, who was ill. However, I shall always cherish our conversation and I see now, she was a traveler, too.

I find myself smiling when I think of the hours that you, Carmel and I would spend "solving all the problems of the world" especially those that plague "our children" and education in general. Now I sit in quiet reflection - remembering my friend with the "weird eyes" from Austria, her quiet demeanor, her enlarged heart for others and her bold spirit that could only come from God. Mostly I am thanking God that I had the pleasure and the honor of meeting and knowing you. I have known Lorraine for several years either through our churches fellowshipping for over 50 years and through Kansas Alliance of Black School Educators in which both of us were administrators. Lorraine was born on November 11, 1954, in Vienna, Austria, to Thelma Williams Jr. and the late Maggie Williams. She was educated from elementary school through high school in USD #475. She later returned to Junction City and USD #475 and in 1981, accepted a third grade teaching position at Washington Elementary.
